IMPACTS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE IN THE MARITAL ENVIRONMENT ON THE MENTAL HEALTH OF VICTIMS

Psychological violence within intimate partner relationships is one of the most prevalent and silent forms of domestic violence, producing significant consequences for victims' mental health. Unlike physical violence, its effects are not immediately visible, making its identification and social confrontation more difficult. This article aims to understand the impacts of psychological violence in intimate relationships on victims' mental health, as well as to analyze the factors that contribute to the maintenance of these relationships and the possibilities for psychological intervention. The study is characterized as a bibliographic, qualitative, and descriptive research, based on classical and contemporary authors from the fields of Psychology, Sociology, and Law. The findings indicate that psychological violence triggers emotional disorders such as anxiety, depression, panic disorder, low self-esteem, and emotional dependence, significantly compromising victims' quality of life. It is concluded that strengthening public policies, support networks, and specialized psychological interventions is essential for the prevention and confrontation of this social problem.
